URGENT NEWS RELEASE 2nd SC REGIMENT PICKENS CAMP 71 SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS 3/30/98 9:49:47 AM
The Pickens Civitan Club met this past weekend to reconsider their exclusion of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and others from the Pickens Azalea Festival. Upon reflection the club decided to rescind their previous decision and have now decided to allow the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 71 to operate our booth in our usual manner. It is our understanding that the pro-life groups previously excluded will also be allowed booth space. We view this incident as unfortunate but believe that, upon reflection, the Pickens Civitans have NOW acted with sound judgment and honorable intent. Camp 71, SCV would like to thank Pickens Mayor Norman Kennemer and the Pickens City Council members for their understanding and support in this matter. We believe the mayor and city council to be men and women of honor. We invite the public to attend the Azalea Festival Saturday April 18 and enjoy a wonderful day in a wonderful town.
